A TRIP WITH ADVENTURE
GUIDE & AFRICA EXPERT
South Africa up close
Cape Town and the Cape region in South Africa are one of Africa’s most popular travel destinations. But just a short drive further, vast landscapes and long gravel roads begin. Pure adventure awaits you here. Hannu, your Africa Adventure Guide, takes you on a unique 4×4 adventure to the remote north of South Africa. It is a region that even the majority of South Africans and South Africa travel enthusiasts are not familiar with.
In Cape Town you will meet your fellow travellers and take over your own 4×4 vehicle with roof tent and complete camping equipment (persons per vehicle according to your wishes, 1-4 persons possible, with 1 or 2 roof tents). You will receive a detailed briefing and 4×4 training from Hannu, your Africa Adventure Guide, who will accompany you with his vehicle for the entire trip.
After your arrival day in Cape Town and the Winelands, you will go on a 4×4 adventure into the wilderness for a fortnight. Learn to drive a 4×4 over rocks, on the beach, in the mountains and through the thick sand of the dunes. Explore the desolate deserts of the Northern Cape, which may not be so desolate at times, as there are an amazing number of creatures and organisms to be found here. You’ll explore the Cedar Mountains, Namakwa Land, Richtersveld National Park, Orange River and Riemvasmaak Hot Springs, Verneukpan and the Tankwa Karoo.
Marvel at the endless starry sky, count the shooting stars and sleep in places in your roof tent that no one else can find. You won’t have to cut back on the culinary side either, as your guide knows the best dishes to cook around the campfire. Your trip ends in Cape Town and can of course be extended individually.

The Northern Cape | FEBRUARY 2024
Your journey begins at Cape Town Airport, where you are greeted by Hannu, your Africa First Guide, and meet your fellow travellers. Together, you will then head to the famous Winelands at the gates of Cape Town. Here you can arrive relaxed before the 4x4 vehicles with camping equipment and roof tent are delivered for you and the group in the afternoon and you receive a detailed briefing. Get to know your fellow travellers better at a wine tasting and a joint dinner and get in the mood for the upcoming adventure together with Hannu.
Today your adventure journey begins, you follow Hannu in your car on an initially relaxed drive north. This is where the Cedar Mountains begin, an ancient mountain range with great hiking opportunities. Already today you leave the tarred roads and can gain your first off-road experience. In the afternoon you explore the cedar mountains with your guide Hannu, before you end the evening together at the camp with a campfire.
After your first night in the wild and an introduction to the routines of camping, your journey continues. Your destination is the Namaqua National Park. Coming out of the Cedar Mountains, we leave the tarred roads after a short while and make our way to the Atlantic Ocean. Our camp is located in the Namaqua National Park directly at the ocean. The way there can lead through thick sand towards the end. Discover many small, hidden beaches and an incredible variety of plants in the dunes. In the evening, relax by the campfire on the beach and fall asleep in the roof tent with the crashing waves.
The 4x4 adventure really continues today, as you won't see any tarred roads for the next few days. From the Namaqua National Park we continue to the Richtersveld National Park. The last few days you could already gain your first off-road experience, which you can test today in more extreme conditions, because it literally goes through the rocks. Hannu is always there to help you and gives you the best tips for this adventure. End the evening with a cool drink and good food around the campfire.
The following two days are spent in the Richtersveld National Park. In total seclusion you will explore the park with Hannu in a 4x4 car and on foot. This is a Transfrontier Park, which means that it straddles the border with Namibia. Your next campsite is situated directly on a river. Relax from the drives, go swimming in the river and enjoy the good camping food. The starry sky here is incredible.
Today we head towards Vioolsdrift, the border crossing with Namibia. The border is described by the Orange River, which you now drive along to reach your next camp on the banks of the river. Depending on the time of arrival, you can take a short sunset canoe ride on the Orange River, stop and jump off the rocks and later relax on the banks of the river. Enjoy the view of Namibia on the other side of the river.
You wake up at the Orange River, leave the canoes and the river behind and your adventure continues on the Namaqua 4x4 Trail. Look forward to heat and dust, a barren environment, and learn to appreciate the specialness of water in the form of the Orange River. It is an exclusive experience to be able to experience the remoteness up here on the border to Namibia - in a region that is hardly travelled even by South Africans. Look forward to two beautifully situated campsites.
Today you follow the Namibian border to Riemvasmaak and the hot springs. Spend two days in this magical place and discover the great hiking routes of the green Kalahari as well as the north side of the Augrabies Gorge and the Augrabies Falls National Park with the great waterfalls on the Orange River.
After passing the northern point of your journey, today you head south again to a very special place in the Northern Cape. Here you will find the Verneukpan, a salt pan in the middle of the Kalahari that was often used to break speed records in the past. The salt pan is so flat that you can barely see the end of the pan and therefore the horizon. Watch a spectacular sunset and listen to your guide's stories around the campfire about this magical place.
It's off on your final leg into the semi-desert of the Karoo. Explore the national park and many of the indigenous animals here. Hannu will introduce you to the special features and parts of the Karoo (like the Tankwa Karoo here). You will follow some of the park's 4x4 trails to great viewpoints and have the chance to show off your off-road skills once again. Spend the last day in the wilderness and around the campfire.
Today we head to Cape Town for the grand finale. Enjoy the drive through the Karoo and Cedar Mountains once more. Arrive in Cape Town in the afternoon, have some time to relax and then head to the Waterfront with your fellow travellers. Here, Hannu will take you on a farewell sunset sail against the backdrop of the city and Table Mountain, before you end the trip with a final dinner together.
Today your incredible African adventure comes to an end and you head back to Cape Town Airport, where you say goodbye to your fellow travellers and Hannu and check in for your flight home. In your luggage you will have many unforgettable memories of Africa.
