A TRIP WITH ADVENTURE
GUIDE & AFRICA EXPERT
Namibia up close
The eternal onwards of Namibia awaits you. You will embark on an unforgettable 4×4 adventure. In Windhoek you will meet your fellow travellers and take over your own 4×4 Toyota Hilux with roof tent and complete camping equipment (persons per vehicle according to your wishes, 1-4 persons possible, with 1 or 2 roof tents). You will receive a detailed briefing and 4×4 training from Hannu, your Africa Adventure Guide, who will accompany you the entire trip with his vehicle.
The adventure begins with a hike and first night’s camping in the Okonjima Reserve, before the safari stage in Etosha National Park including the exploration of the little-developed west of the park awaits you. In the Etendeka Mountains you go on a two-day hike (equipment provided) and finally you put your 4×4 skills to the test in the Kaokoveld and on the Skeleton Coast. You will drive some of the most remote regions of the country and experience exclusive moments in indescribable nature, camping and in fancy lodges. The desert elephants and sunsets in Damaraland will stay with you for a long time, while the road takes you over the Spitzkoppe into the Namib Desert and to a 4×4 Sossusvlei tour including a hike to the Dead Vlei. In the Kalahari, you will end your journey in the dunes.

Off the beaten track | November 2023 & April 2024
Your journey begins at Windhoek airport, where you are greeted by Hannu, your Africa First Guide, and meet your fellow travellers. Your 4x4 rental car with Roof Top Tent and camping equipment is already waiting for you and you will receive a detailed introduction to your car and equipment. Afterwards Hannu leads the group through the capital Windhoek and further north towards the Waterbergs. Shortly before the plateau we reach the Okonjima Reserve, home of the AfriCat Foundation, after a relaxed drive. At the local campsite you set up camp for the night with your fellow travellers, of course under the guidance of Hannu. You have arrived in Africa, the adventure has begun.
After the first night in the wild and an introduction to the routines of camping, the journey continues north to the southern entrance of the famous Etosha National Park. The SAFARI PART of your journey begins. We enter Etosha National Park via Andersson Gate and keep an eye out for the animals of the African wilderness during the drive. Hannu will give you lots of interesting background information on the animals that cross your path. Finally we reach our destination, the Okaukuejo Campsite situated in the heart of the National Park and overlooking the nearby waterhole. Here you can end the day relaxing, watching the animals and listening to the wilderness at night.
Today the drive continues into the lesser known and less visited west of Etosha National Park (as the west entrance has only recently been generally opened). With your own car you will continue on safari through Etosha, again keeping an eye out for the animals along the way. Your destination is the quiet and beautifully situated Olifantsrus Campsite. You have now left the tourist trails and enjoy the wilderness.
We leave Etosha National Park in the west at Gaulton Gate and drive towards Palmwag Concession. Between the Omatendeka and Anabeb Communal Conservancies, we find the 400 km² Etendeka Concession. All activities in this concession directly benefit the inhabitants of these two conservancies, who live in remote and isolated areas bordering the concession to the north. Etendeka Mountain Camp is situated in the foothills of the Grootberg Massif and is perfect for travellers who want to step out of their comfort zone and experience the remote wilderness with its rugged beauty in an authentic way. This is where the HIKING PART of your journey begins. At the Uinab River we leave our rental cars behind and you go with Hannu and a local team on a two-day hike into the Etendeka concession (backpack, equipment, food included). After 2 to 3 hours we reach the first overnight camp, River Camp.
After your first night under the stars, wake up early to enjoy the sounds and smells of the wilderness. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, pack your travel provisions and water bottles in the backpacks provided and begin your hike to Hill Camp. The route is spectacular and Hannu will identify animal tracks and provide you with information about the history of the area. Depending on the progress of the hike, the experiences and refreshment stops, we will reach Hill Camp in the early afternoon for a late lunch and siesta. The hike is between 15 and 20 km and should take about 6 to 7 hours, including breaks, depending on the fitness of the group. Hill Camp is located on the summit of Crystal Mountain and offers spectacular views and an abundance of crystals and exquisite rock formations. In the afternoon you can take a short sunset walk on the plateau and look forward to a simple but delicious dinner around the campfire. You will spend the night on the sleeping platform at the edge of the mountain and enjoy the night under the stars.
You wake up to nature and after breakfast we hike a last bit before heading back to our cars at Palmwag Concession. Now the journey continues with your own vehicle into the remote Kaokoveld and the real 4X4 OFFROAD ADVENTURE PART away from it all begins. You cross the unreal scenery, follow dry riverbeds and learn from Hannu how to drive 4x4 on gravel and sand and how to find your way in the nothingness. During your drive you keep an eye out for the rare desert elephants. Completely secluded, close to the Puros community, we reach our surreal accommodation and exclusive lodge for the next night (no camping!).
The 4x4 adventure continues and the road takes us first through the vastness of the sandy-stony Kaokoveld before we reach the Hoarusib River. We follow the course of the river and approach the Skeleton Coast Conservation Area. To protect nature and wildlife, this area can only be entered with a special permit, and only with an escort. We have the exceptional permission here to follow the escort in our own vehicles into the Skeleton Coast Conservation Area, which stretches inland along the coasts. Here we arrive at the incomparable Shipwreck Lodge, the only - highly exceptional and exclusive - lodge on the Skeleton Coast. The lodge is built almost entirely of wood in the style of shipwrecks and is situated behind the dunes a little away from the Atlantic Ocean, where the sun sets later. You spend a second night in a dreamlike lodge (no camping!).
Today we continue by private vehicle through the Skeleton Coast along the coastline and up to Mowe Bay. Here the reserve ends and we say goodbye to the escort. The road now leads us further southeast inland into the northern part of the reddish, rugged stone desert of Damaraland. Our campsite is tucked away amongst the rocks, which you climb up for sunset and enjoy the rest of the day in this magical setting.
Leaving the barren, rocky Kaokoveld and northern Damaraland behind us, we continue through beautiful Daramaland. Before we reach the vast plains of the Namib Desert, we catch sight of the Brandberg Mountains and the Spitzkoppe, a gigantic granite monolith. In the afternoon you explore the breathtaking scenery on a hike with Hannu.
Today we start the last DESERT PART of your adventure round trip through Namibia. We drive from Spitzkoppe over the Plains towards the Namib Desert. Our destination is the Sesriem Gate, the gateway to Soussusvlei and one of the oldest deserts in the world. Along the way you will stop with Hannu and do a short hike. Finally, you will reach your campsite at the gates of the Namib Naukluft National Park and get in the mood for tomorrow's highlight around the campfire.
At sunrise you set off on a drive into the sand, into the Namib Desert and to Sossusvlei. Here Hannu takes you on a desert hike, you can climb the gigantic dunes and enjoy the view of Dead Vlei on the way down - Namibia's No. 1 postcard motif. During the midday heat you spend time in the shade before Hannu introduces you to the secrets of the desert in the afternoon. You can also look forward to cooling off in the pool at your campsite.
For the finale of the journey you leave the Namib Desert for the Kalahari with a completely different character. The drive takes you through the Namibian highlands before you finally reach your last campsite in the foothills of the Kalahari. Here you can relax in the evening and review the adventures of your journey with your fellow travellers.
Today your unforgettable Namibian adventure comes to an end. The journey continues north back to Windhoek, where you will arrive at noon. Depending on the time of your return flight, you will have the opportunity to explore the small capital of Namibia before saying goodbye to your fellow travellers and Hannu and checking in at Windhoek Airport for your flight home. You will have many unforgettable memories in your luggage!
