Beyond Botswana

Today you go on a safari tour to Nxai Pan. The size of this national park is about 2,600 km² and is one of the salt lakes of Makgadikgadi. Many herbivores such as zebra, springbok, elephant, wildebeest and giraffe may cross your path in Nxai Pan. Due to the large number of wild animals, predators can also be seen in this area. A highlight of the park are the historic "Baines Baobabs", a group of seven trees. You explore the Nxai Pan National Park in an open 4x4 safari vehicle and enjoy a light lunch and some refreshments on the way (tour included).

After a relaxed start to the day in Leopard Plains, your drive continues via the Nxai Pan and Makgadadigadi Pan to Nata. From your lodge you go on an afternoon drive out onto the eternally wide salt pan. Lake Makgadikgadi is a former lake that existed in what is now Botswana in the Kalahari and dried up. In its place today are the Makgadikgadi salt pans and the Okavango Delta. The vast nothingness will leave you speechless and the sporadic animal sightings will be a real highlight (4x4 safari tour included).

From Nata north, the road takes you a short distance along the "Elephant Highway" before you reach your next accommodation. Elephant Sands is built around a waterhole that is the lifeline for the elephants of the region. The constant comings and goings of the pachyderms and their fascinating behaviour is sure to grab you, and the up-close experience itself is almost impossible to describe.

After breakfast you continue north to Kasane, the gateway to Chobe National Park. Situated along the Chobe River are the safari lodges of the region. Apart from classic safari game drives, Chobe National Park is particularly famous for its boat safaris and the large population of elephants. So embark on an afternoon safari on the Chobe River and discover the elephants and buffalos in the reeds and enjoy the African sunset over the water on board.

After breakfast you leave your rental car at the lodge for the day and our transfer takes you across the border into Zimbabwe. The road takes you through the Zambezi National Park to the famous Victoria Falls. The transfer and a tour along the falls are included. Afterwards, you can explore the small town of Victoria Falls and opt for other local activities such as a bungee jump from the Victoria Falls Bridge or a helicopter flight with a view over the falls, which stretch over 1.8 km and thus not only form the longest curtain of water in the world, but whose gigantic masses of water also thunder over 100 metres into the depths - rightly one of the natural wonders of our earth.

In the morning you return to Botswana and drive directly with your own rental car towards Ngoma to cross the border from Botswana to Namibia. Here you enter the outermost tip of the Caprivi Strip and drive westwards. South of the main route, close to the Botswana border, you will eventually reach Nkasa Lupala National Park and its eponymous lodge, perfectly situated on the Kwando-Linyanti river system for further safari adventures on land and water.

Today is another offbeat safari day: embark on a game drive on land in Mamili National Park and the Wuparo Conservancy, as well as a boat safari on the Harubandi Channel, which is part of the Kwando-Linyanti river system. These safaris are already included for you and can optionally be exchanged for a walking safari or a night safari.

The journey continues through the Caprivi Strip to Divundu and the Poppa Falls, where the Okavango River turns south into Botswana and feeds the famous Okavango Delta. Your lodge is situated near the Popa Falls. Enjoy the special ambience of the lodge and jump into the first Croco & Hippo Pool, where you swim protected from the animals in the Okavango River.

Today you embark on a mokoro (dugout canoe) ride with a guide from Poppa Falls down the Okavango past hippos and crocodiles (tour included). In the afternoon you can opt for another safari game drive with a ranger into Mahango National Park and relax at your lodge in the evening.

After a relatively short onward journey, you arrive at the big safari highlight of your trip, Mopiri Camp in the Okavango Delta.
