Our Philosophy

Sinclair’s Africa is a brand of the tour operator KM individual GmbH founded by managing director Dr. Patrick Sinclair Merten. For 10 years we have been realising our customers’ personal African travel dreams and are delighted that they have become aware of us.

Our head office is in Cologne and our team is also located in our own office in Cape Town. We also have a local partner office in all the countries we’re offering to you. Our local partner offices not only bring additional Africa expertise, but also ensure local quality assurance.

Thanks to our extensive partner network in southern and eastern Africa, we can also book unusual experiences and exclusive offers at fair prices for you.

R+V Insurance – As we are a German tour operator, we naturally insure your trips against insolvency; our insurance partner, R+V Insurance, will be happy to confirm this on request. You will receive our insurance certificate with your travel booking.

Sinclair’s Africa

The somewhat different tour operator

“I founded my tour operator 10 years ago. Since then the world has changed incredibly – not only in a touristic context. In 2009, many people asked me what an individual travel agency actually is. Today, the trend towards individually composed, as personal as possible experiences is clearly visible.

All my personal Africa moments and encounters have meanwhile led me to shift my focus – and that of my travel agency – to authentic Africa trips, which of course are still absolutely individual.

With my favourite journeys here on this website I would like to give all Africa enthusiasts the opportunity to travel to Africa in the most authentic and individual way possible. I am happy to give personal advice to anyone who wants to get to know the continent and its people better. I am happy to personally design an authentic Africa trip for you.

Be inspired by my Africa blog, have a look at our social media channels and maybe we’ll see each other personally on one of my exclusive small group adventures.”

– Dr. Patrick Sinclair Merten,
Founder. Managing Director

social engagement

“For me, there is one thing that makes southern and eastern Africa so special – the friendliness and happiness of the people. Sometimes the optimism and enthusiasm seems overwhelming on my Africa journeys. It is a joie de vivre despite sometimes absolutely adverse circumstances – from which we as Europeans can learn so much. Therefore, it is very important to me to support the wonderful people of the African continent”.

– Patrick Sinclair

For every trip booked via Sinclair’s Africa we donate € 10,- to a social project, currently Ubuntu e.V. for projects promoting the education of children in southern Africa.

authentic Africa journeys

Authentic Africa journeys are a special concern for us, we would like to bring you closer to the African cultures & people and the colourful and lively diversity of the continent.

On our authentic Africa journeys you will experience Africa and meet people, places and events in their typical form with respect and openness.

At the conference on “Travel in Developing Countries” in Penang/Malaysia, the virtues of travel “Code of Ehtics – Twelve Virtues for Travel” were developed a few years ago:

1. Travel in a spirit of modesty and with the sincere desire to learn more about the country and its people.

2. Respect the feelings of the host population to avoid hurtful behaviour on your part. This applies especially to photography.

3. Practice real listening and observation instead of just listening and seeing.

4. Remember that other peoples often have different concepts of time. This does not mean that they are worse – just different.

5. Instead of searching only for dream beaches, you discover the enrichment you see with different eyes – through the encounter with a different way of life.

6. Familiarize yourself with local customs and traditions – people will help you.

7. Instead of having Western answers to everything, get used to asking questions yourself.

8. Remember that you are only one in a thousand tourists in the country, so don’t claim any special privileges.

9. If you want it to be like home on holiday, there is no point in wasting money on travel.

10. If you have bought cheaply, remember that this was only possible because the manufacturer received a low wage for it.

11. Do not make promises to the people in your host country if you are not sure whether you can or want to keep your word.

12.Take time to think about your daily experiences and deepen your understanding. It is said that “what enriches you can make others poorer and hurt them.

Sustainable travelling

With our authentic journeys we want to make a contribution to sustainable tourism.

Through our numerous journeys through Africa, our office in Cape Town and our local partners, we identify very strongly with the local population in our hearts, as well as with the pristine wilderness and nature.

In addition, we have decided not to offer programs and activities that are obviously not sustainable, such as riding elephants, Shark Cage Diving or disrespectful “poor tours”. If you are not sure which tour providers and activities are sustainable, feel free to contact us at any time.
